Try the KJ_EduInsights diagnostic assessment approach for FREE.

This Year 6 English and Maths Mini Diagnostic is a completely free beginning-of-year assessment designed to give teachers a quick snapshot of selected prerequisite skills while demonstrating how assessment results can be turned into useful next steps.

Rather than simply giving pupils a score, this free resource includes a simplified automatic Excel tracker that helps identify strengths, gaps and areas that may need further investigation.

What’s included?

This FREE resource contains:

  • 12-mark English mini diagnostic
  • 12-mark Maths mini diagnostic
  • Teacher answer and marking guidance
  • Diagnostic focus for every question
  • Automatic Excel gap-analysis tracker
  • Class score entry sheet
  • Automatic English, Maths and combined scores
  • Automatic identification of class gaps
  • HIGH / WATCH / LOW priority indicators
  • Individual pupil profiles
  • Secure / Gap identification by question
  • Suggested next steps linked to identified gaps
  • Teacher guidance for using the results

The assessments are deliberately short and are designed to take approximately 15 minutes per subject, making them ideal for a quick beginning-of-Year-6 check, transition activity or initial diagnostic snapshot.

More than a score

Enter pupil results into the included Excel tracker and the spreadsheet does the analysis for you.

Use the results to:

identify areas pupils appear secure in;
spot common class gaps;
identify pupils who may need further assessment;
prioritise areas for retrieval and recap;
view an individual pupil’s strengths and gaps;
begin planning appropriate next steps.

Assess → Diagnose → Identify Next Steps

Please note: this is a MINI diagnostic

This free resource is intentionally a small sample of the complete KJ_EduInsights Year 6 baseline assessment system.

With only 12 questions per subject, it provides a useful snapshot but is not intended to replace a comprehensive beginning-of-year baseline assessment or provide a secure overall attainment judgement.

It has been created so that teachers can try the KJ_EduInsights approach before deciding whether the complete diagnostic toolkits are right for their class.
