Try the Visual Supports Starter Set free. It includes six editable boards for secondary classrooms (S1-S4 / Years 7-11) from the Visual Supports Toolkit, ready to edit, print and laminate.

The six boards

  • Now / Next board: one activity at a time, with a clear picture box and label.
  • First / Then board: task first, then a chosen reward or break.
  • Visual timetable: five blocks per day with time, symbol, room and done columns.
  • Choice board: six options with picture boxes.
  • Help cards: six silent ways to ask for help, a break, a quiet space or to go to the toilet.
  • Social story template: six panels covering where and when, what happens, who is there, how I might feel, what I can do and what happens next.

How to use them

Open the PowerPoint, click any text box to edit it and replace the dashed boxes with your own photos or symbols. Print on A4 or A3 and laminate, or use on screen. Boards work in colour or black and white. A PDF copy is included for instant printing.

Age-appropriate and inclusive

The layouts are clean and uncluttered, so they suit teenage pupils in mainstream classes, ASN and SEND bases, and nurture groups. They are written to be useful for pupils with autism, ADHD, language and communication needs or EAL, and helpful for every pupil who benefits from clear routines. Wren the bird mascot gives a friendly, consistent look that is not childish.

Frameworks

Wording is neutral for use across the UK. Visual supports are a low-cost reasonable adjustment that can be recorded in a pupil passport or support plan, in line with the SEND Code of Practice (England) and ASL Act / GIRFEC (Scotland). Check your own school policy. This is general information, not legal advice.

Want the rest?

The full Visual Supports Toolkit adds 12 boards in total including step strips, noise level signs, class expectations and planners, plus a 12-slide staff briefing deck, a four-week rollout plan, an 8-page pupil workbook and a staff knowledge check with marking scheme.
