Can empathy be learned—and how can it be put into action?
This free two-page high school writing resource asks students to explore whether empathy can be learned and demonstrated through everyday actions.

Students write a 5–7 paragraph essay with a clear thesis, consider another person’s perspective, and support their reasoning with evidence from at least two credible sources. The assignment also includes guidance for citations and a Works Cited page.
The second page provides a simple planning organizer for:

  • working thesis
  • ways empathy can be learned or shown
  • a specific situation and another person’s perspective
  • evidence from two sources
  • final essay requirements

Ideal for:

  • Grades 9–12
  • High school English / ELA
  • Essay writing
  • Research and argument writing
  • Empathy or character education
  • Homeschool or classroom use
