Explore Fairtrade Fortnight from 25 September–5 October with this engaging, ready-to-deliver whole-school assembly for primary schools.

This assembly introduces pupils to Fairtrade and the idea of fairer trade, helping children understand that many everyday products — including bananas, chocolate, tea, coffee, sugar and cotton — begin their journey in other parts of the world. Pupils explore how the people who grow and make these products can be treated fairly and respectfully.

Pupils learn how Fairtrade can support better prices for farmers and workers, safer working conditions, stronger communities and opportunities for children to go to school. The assembly emphasises that fairness is not only about sharing and taking turns at school, but also about thinking carefully about how products are made and who benefits from them.

Through an engaging story about a banana and the farmer who grows it, pupils discover how individual choices can contribute to something bigger. They are introduced to the Fairtrade mark and encouraged to think about who made the products they use and whether they can make a fairer choice.

The presentation includes an interactive Fairtrade challenge, partner discussion and audience questions, giving pupils opportunities to think about everyday products and how their choices might support farmers and workers around the world.

The assembly finishes with three simple actions: look for the Fairtrade mark, learn where food and clothes come from, and choose fairer options when you can.
