This EYFS Valentine’s Day resource is designed to support creative development, fine motor skills, and early independence through cutting, colouring, and simple card construction.
The pack includes three pages.
Page 1 features six pastel coloured heart designs, each with a different Valentine’s Day theme (roses, a hugging couple, a gift, chocolates, a card and glasses, and Cupid).
Page 2 duplicates these same six hearts in black and white, allowing children to colour their own versions.
Page 3 provides blank heart templates so children can design and decorate their own unique Valentine’s picture.
To make the cards, children cut out their chosen heart design and attach it to the front of a folded piece of card using glue or a split pin if creating a dangling feature.
They can choose to use the ready-coloured hearts for a quicker make or colour the black-and-white versions to personalise their card. The blank templates encourage creativity, allowing children to draw their own Valentine’s theme. This activity supports scissor skills, pencil control, creativity, and early design choices while creating a meaningful handmade card to take home or give to a friend.
