AQA GCSE Geography lesson for Unit 2C: In this lesson we look at the global patterns of energy supply and demand and energy security.

There is a retrieval practice starter slide for you to populate with whatever questions your like. We begin by looking at our daily consumption of energy and the students create a mind map, using the pictures to guide them on what we use energy for in our day-to-day lives. We then look at energy security and insecurity. The students then guess which are the top ten countries in terms of energy security from the flags. The students look at the four main factors regarding energy security, they then explain how each of these factors can affect a country’s energy security. We then look at global patterns of energy consumption and the students use the data on the map to create a simple choropleth map to show highest and lowest consuming countries. We then seek to explain the patterns. We then consider why energy consumption has increased and the students try to unscramble the reasons, then explain why this has caused energy consumption to increase.

We finish with 4-mark GCSE-style evaluation question based on the content of the lesson and the students have some tips and guidance on how to answer it if required. They also have a writing frame.
