Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) KS3 Spanish lesson for Year 7–8: an interactive web page and matching worksheet with map, vocab, reading and quiz.

A colourful one-lesson mission that moves between paper and screen. Students work through five missions, switching between the worksheet and an interactive web page. Each step unlocks the next.

What students do:

• Misión 1 · Descubre México: click a map of Mexico to find out how the festival is celebrated in Oaxaca, Michoacán, Mexico City, Yucatán and Aguascalientes. Then practise se celebra en… • Misión 2 · Explora la ofrenda: click objects on a virtual altar to collect vocabulary, meanings and secret letters. • Misión 3 · La contraseña: put the letters in order to crack a password that unlocks the next mission. • Misión 4 · El mensaje secreto: read a message from Lucía in Oaxaca (tap words for English), answer questions, then do a self-marking quiz and print a certificate. • Misión 5 · Mi ofrenda: design and describe an ofrenda in Spanish using a writing frame and word bank.

Whats included:

• an interactive HTML page that works offline, with audio, a self-marking quiz and a printable certificate • a 6-page worksheet as PDF and editable Word • a vocabulary knowledge organiser with cognates • an extra read-and-colour page for early finishers or open evening • teacher notes with lesson timings, cultural background, a full answer key, an English translation and back-up printouts for students without devices

Language covered: ofrenda vocabulary, hay / no hay, porque, se celebra en…, colours and adjective agreement, opinions and cognates.

Flexible use: in class (individually, in pairs or on one board), as homework, or as a 10–15 minute open evening activity. A “start again button resets the page for the next visitor.

All artwork is original. The topic is handled sensitively: students can make their ofrenda for a famous person, a character or a pet.

Tip: if your VLE or Google Drive shows code instead of the page, download the HTML file and open it in any browser.
