Hello!
This is a set of 5 CVC worksheets focusing on identifying the missing middle (medial) vowel in simple CVC words.

Each worksheet contains 9 pictures with the middle vowel missing from the word underneath. Children look at the picture, say the word aloud and try to identify which vowel sound is missing.

I鈥檝e kept the layout simple, with clear pictures and plenty of space to write. I鈥檝e also added a small picture guide at the top of each sheet to remind children of the five short vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u).

These are particularly useful for children who are becoming confident with initial and final sounds but still find those tricky middle vowels difficult. In my own practice I鈥檝e found this particularly useful for pupils with EAL in supporting their differentiation of the vowel sounds.

What鈥檚 in the pack?

5 printable worksheets covering 45 CVC words

A mixture of all five short vowel sounds

Short-vowel picture prompts on each worksheet

Answer sheets

Brief teacher notes with suggestions for supporting learners

The sheets can be used for independent work, small-group phonics activities, interventions or a quick informal assessment to see which vowel sounds children are confident with and which need a bit more work.

This is part of my wider CVC collection, which also includes missing initial sounds, missing final sounds, reading and spelling activities.

I hope you find these useful, and it you do please leave a review or some feedback. It would be greatly appreciated.
