This resource pack has been developed to take pupils ‘behind the scenes’ and introduce them to the variety of roles and skill sets that are involved in creating a museum exhibition.

Tatton Park’s 2026 ‘Beyond the View - Canaletto’ exhibition will act as a real-world example for the activities outlined, which aim to inspire pupils’ interest in future careers in museums, galleries and the heritage sector.

The resource pack forms a cross-curricular scheme of work for Key Stage 2 and can support pupils to design their own exhibitions. Teachers are welcome to adapt the activities to their students’ skill sets and intended outcomes.

Although aligned to the National Curriculum, we feel that the content could also be applied in a home education environment. The background information and suggested activities are enriching and highlight a range of skills that link to the world of work.

The hope is that engaging in this resource will:

• Raise knowledge of the varied roles within the heritage sector
• Encourage young people to think about their skills and abilities
• Provides content for interactive, engaging activities that compliment learning
• Encourage young people to visit museum exhibitions
