This bundle contains three fully resourced and editable lessons exploring the rise, character, power and eventual downfall of Cardinal Thomas Wolsey under Henry VIII.

Students investigate how Wolsey rose from humble beginnings to become Henry VIII’s chief minister before assessing the qualities, skills and political ability that allowed him to dominate Tudor government. The lessons explore Wolsey’s influence over government, finance, the Church, the legal system and foreign policy, alongside debates surrounding his personality, reputation and legacy.

Through source analysis, historical interpretations, comprehension tasks, discussion and evaluative activities, students examine differing views of Wolsey before reaching substantiated judgements on both his success and his fall from grace.
