A colourful KS3 Art activity inspired by Bruce Nauman’s use of neon lighting, signs and visual communication.

Students design an original symbol that communicates an idea, emotion or message, then develop it using bold neon-style outlines and bright colours.

The worksheet explores symbolism, line, glow, contrast, meaning and composition while encouraging students to communicate ideas without relying entirely on words.

The extension encourages pupils to design a connected series of neon symbols based around a shared theme or message.

Perfect for KS3 Art, graphic design, signs and symbols projects, artist studies and cover lessons.
