Books Build Worlds is a fully immersive, whole-school reading themed day designed to ignite a passion for books while keeping teacher workload to an absolute minimum.

I originally created this resource for my own school to celebrate World Book Day. It generated a real buzz around reading and was enthusiastically embraced by both pupils and teachers alike.

Whether it’s World Book Day, National Storytelling Week, or International Literacy Day, this resource turns your school building into a seven world adventure.

The Concept: Seven Worlds, One Adventure

The school is divided into seven distinct “Worlds.” Pupils travel between classrooms, carrying their personal Reading Passports, collecting stickers as they complete book-based challenges in each realm:

Forest Story World
Silly Stories World
Traditional Tales World
Adventure Island World
Mystery & Magic World
Space & Future World
Survival World

Print & Go: Every activity, booklet, and instructional slide is prepared and ready for immediate use. The only task for class teachers is to grab the two allocated books for their world and spend a little time decorating their classroom to match their theme. Whether it’s hanging stars for Space World or vines for the Story Forest, the atmosphere is yours to create!

What’s Included in the Pack?

Master PowerPoint: A hub containing all activities and instructions for all seven worlds.

Differentiated Activity Booklets: One bespoke booklet for EYFS/KS1 and one for KS2 to ensure every child is challenged appropriately.

The Passport System: Printable passports for every child, plus template labels for “World Stickers” to track their journey.

The Reading List: A curated list of 14 books (two per world: one for younger, one for older readers).

Logistics & Planning: Includes an teacher instructions for each world, example timetable, English Lead checklists, and printable resources for some specific world-based tasks.

Why Teachers Love It

Zero Planning Required: Every activity is mapped out and resourced.

Creative Freedom: Teachers can focus on making their “World” look incredible without worrying about the lesson content.

High Engagement: The “Passport” element adds a gamified layer that keeps children excited to move to the next “World.”
