Examples:

  1. The Galápagos Islands – Write a newspaper article.
  2. Fly Away – Make a map. Chart the migration route. Add information about seasons and weather.
  3. What a Beautiful Day – You are a TV weather reporter. Make a chart, table, list, or map that will appear on the screen with your report. Add the report.
  4. Eat it! You´ll like it – Write and illustrate a children´s book5. Llama, Alpaca, Guanaco, and Vicuña – Create a fact sheet with four pictures, one for each animal, llama, alpaca, vicuña, guanaco. Describe them
  5. Underground – Tell the story.
  6. Weird and Wonderful Animals – Your travel poster uses an animal to advertise a specific country. It includes a picture of ONE animal and pertinent information to catch the attention of a potential visitor.
  7. National Parks – Write two letters. The first requests information. The second gives the answers.
  8. The Lungs of our Planet – Write an interview.
  9. Nature’s Power – Novices write a poem and illustrate it. Intermediate and advanced tell of one family’s tragedy.

Example 1:
The Galápagos Islands – Novices: Your newspaper is doing a special issue on animals. List at least four animals that live on the Galápagos Islands. Divide them into endangered and not endangered animals. Write (3/4/5) sentences to describe each animal. What country do the islands belong to?

Example 2
Underground – Novices: Did you know that humans need salt to survive? Explore the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá (Colombia). Write questions and answers about the people who work there. Use quién, dónde, qué and por qué.

Example 3
National Parks– Advanced: You work at Picos de Europa, Spain´s largest national park. Write a cover letter responding to a request for information. With your response include your promotional brochure with pictures and maps. Add a chart of opening and closing hours in different seasons, and describe the attractions (hiking, cable car, local animals).
