Remind children of what’s happened so far up to ‘I wrote a long letter to Petie’. Ask the children work with a partner and talk about Tom, (what he has been doing on the farm and how he feels about being there.) What might he tell Petie about being on the farm in a letter? Write intro as a shared writing activity.
Children write their own letter to Petie, in role as Tom.
Rowling 2 – Work with JH (focus AF4 L4 BP1) children given 4 ideas for the letter – they must construct paragrphs: main idea then supporting statements to form the paragraph.
Rowling 1 – Ind working on structuring the paragraphs
Lewis – construct 2 paragraphs explaining in detail the main point. Must choose an appropriate opener/closing.
Dahl – look at a piece of work – where should the paragraphs go? Why?, giving reasons.
Class to look at a letter that has no paragraphs. Where should they go? Explain to a friend what you think
Ask children to close their eyes as you reread the section in Chapter 5 where Tom first sees the black fox, beginning ‘I did not believe it for a minute.’ (partner work about what he saw/how he felt). Watch youtube clip of a fox in a garden. Write three simple sentences – How does it move? What does it look like? Location.
Change these sentences from simple to include an adverbial phrase.
