This free, comprehensive academic-year planning calendar has been designed especially for RE, Religion and Worldviews, PSHE/PSCHE and pastoral teams, by the National Quality Mark for SMSC and British Values.

Covering September 2026 to July 2027, this professionally presented resource brings together a broad and inclusive selection of religious festivals, cultural celebrations, commemorations and national and international awareness days. Each event is linked clearly to Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural development (SMSC), Fundamental British Values and relevant UN or social-action themes.

The calendar can be used to support:

• RE and Religion and Worldviews lessons
• PSHE/PSCHE and RSHE provision
• Assemblies and collective worship
• Tutor-time and pastoral activities
• Personal-development programmes
• Whole-school displays and newsletters
• Pupil leadership and social-action projects
• Curriculum enrichment and themed events

Each entry includes:

• The confirmed or anticipated date for 2026–2027
• A concise explanation of the event or festival
• Relevant UN or social-action categories
• Direct links to SMSC
• Direct links to Fundamental British Values
• Practical suggestions for classroom and whole-school use

The resource also includes guidance on using awareness days meaningfully and avoiding tokenism, together with examples of strong cross-curricular links. Teachers are encouraged to draw upon authentic voices, protect freedom of belief, challenge prejudice, promote respectful discussion and connect pupils’ rights with their responsibilities.

Faith observances are presented sensitively, with helpful guidance about lunar calendars, sunset start times and local variations. The resource distinguishes between learning about a religion or worldview and participating in religious observance.

Ideal for:

• RE and Religion and Worldviews teachers
• PSHE, PSCHE and RSHE leads
• Heads of Year and form tutors
• Pastoral and safeguarding teams
• SMSC and British Values coordinators
• Personal-development leads
• Assembly coordinators
• Senior leaders planning the school calendar

Provided as both a ready-to-use PDF and an editable Word document, allowing schools to adapt the calendar to their own community, curriculum and priorities.

Produced by the National Quality Mark for SMSC & British Values as a free resource for teachers.
