Advanced English mock exam (B2–C1) covering listening, language in use, reading, writing, and speaking. Ideal for grades 10–12 and young adults.

This comprehensive, ready-to-use test is designed for upper-intermediate to advanced learners (CEFR B2–C1). It assesses all key language skills through authentic, challenging tasks.Answer Key and Audio files provided.

The listening section includes three parts: a multiple‑choice task on a global design competition (energy‑efficient dishwasher using carbon dioxide), a matching task where five students describe their first year at university, and a one‑word gap‑fill lecture on the history of fireworks in Europe (13th–18th centuries, covering war, entertainment, scientific uses, and St Petersburg, Paris, London).

The language in use section tests vocabulary in context (anger: sources, overcoming fear, injustice, unfaithful partners), word formation (media commentators: invariably, presence, opinionated, enthusiasm, organisational skills), and error correction (Pyramids passage: passive voice, “used to think”, “by chance”, pronoun “their”).

The reading section contains a gap‑fill on London traffic then and now, a 10‑question multiple‑choice passage about Winterthur Museum (decorative arts, period rooms), and a 6‑paragraph text on the metro‑sexual male with heading matching (B–G) and true/false/not given statements (hegemonic masculinity, dandyism, risk‑taking).

The writing section includes a 120‑word informal letter to friends (thanking for photos and holiday, explaining delay in writing, inviting them to stay) and a 200–250 word essay on the benefits of extracurricular activities for students.

The speaking section offers five topic cards (favourite way to communicate, exciting experience, famous food, language test, school rule) with 3‑minute preparation and delivery.

Skills targeted:
Listening for detail, inference, note‑taking (one word answers), matching speakers to opinions; vocabulary (collocations, word families, synonyms, word formation); grammar (passive voice, reported speech, conditionals, conjunctions); reading comprehension (main idea, reference, paraphrasing, heading matching, true/false/not given); writing (letter format, essay structure, coherence, task fulfilment); speaking (fluency, organisation, pronunciation).
