Adding Decimals is a complete Year 7 Core mathematics lesson delivered through an editable, standalone and print-free PowerPoint. Pupils learn to add positive decimals accurately by aligning decimal points and place-value columns, using placeholder zeros where helpful, estimating before calculating and checking answers afterwards.

The lesson starts with retrieval on place value, decimal notation, integer addition, rounding and estimation, then introduces key vocabulary and a representation showing why decimal points must stay aligned. I Do teacher modelling makes the method and mathematical reasoning visible through a planned worked example. We Do guided examples then allow pupils to practise decimal addition with support and receive immediate checks. You Do practice gives carefully sequenced independent questions, including unequal decimal lengths, regrouping, money contexts and missing addends.

Assessment for learning is built in through mini-whiteboard questions, error analysis, comparison questions and reasoning prompts. The differentiated Developing, Secure, Greater Depth and Super Challenge task is displayed together on one classroom-readable slide so pupils can select a starting point and move across without the teacher changing slides. Misconceptions focus on aligning decimal points and regrouping by place value. The lesson finishes with problem solving, a challenge task, exam-style questions and an exit check.

The download contains the complete editable Core PowerPoint lesson, including all teaching slides, pupil tasks, worked examples, assessment opportunities and answer slides. No separate worksheet is required.
