TOPICS COVERED
Understanding meaningful activity and the Activities Co-ordinator role; creative, person-centred approaches; self-esteem and wellbeing; selecting activities for individual needs and abilities; the six steps of activity provision; building an accessible activities calendar; involving residents and relatives; volunteers, fundraising and community links; everyday engagement, food, games, reminiscence and sensory activities; reviewing learning and planning changes in practice.

HOW TO USE THIS PACK
Use the presentation to structure a trainer-led session, with the Trainer’s Edition supporting questions, group discussion and reflection. Learners can complete their workbook during delivery and use the action plan to identify ideas for their setting. The supporting toolkit provides editable training forms and templates.

The course encourages staff to look beyond an events calendar and recognise the value of ordinary routines, personal interests and individual choice. Examples can be discussed and adapted to residents’ preferences.

Suitable for activities co-ordinators, care home teams, independent trainers and health and social care educators. Adapt the session and paperwork to learners, local policies and residents’ needs. Activities should be assessed for suitability, accessibility and risk in the setting where they will be used.
