5 practical, movement-based activities to help children aged 6–11 develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence and teamwork.

The Active Regulation Toolkit is designed for teachers, teaching assistants, SEN/SEMH staff, coaches and pastoral teams who want children to experience and practise regulation skills rather than simply talk about them.

Using simple equipment and active challenges, children encounter moments of frustration, worry, uncertainty, communication and problem-solving in a safe and engaging way. Each activity then uses reflection prompts to help children connect what happened during the challenge to situations in everyday life.

The toolkit includes:
• Boom Shield – build a personal coping toolkit
• Black–White–Grey – explore worries and put them into perspective
• Resilience Tower – practise adapting when things don’t go to plan
• The Balance Mission – develop regulation, communication and teamwork
• The Regulation Playground – put regulation skills into practice through physical challenges
• A suggested 5-week programme
• Printable activity resources
• Set-up diagrams and challenge levels
• Reflection prompts
• Adaptations for different spaces and equipment

Ideal for: KS1 and KS2, nurture provision, SEMH support, wellbeing interventions, small groups, 1:1 work and whole-class activities.

Minimal equipment required. Activities can be adapted to suit the children, space and equipment available.

Less sitting. More doing.
