A lesson designed for use once students have built familiarity with finding representations, language features, text structures and VABs in other text types. Students are given two articles from the ABC to annotate and respond to practice exam questions for.

The first is: A 2025 BTN High article entitled “Smartphones affect young people’s mental health so are dumbphones the answer?”

The second is a 2023 article entitled “Ditching school to save the planet: From the streets, to the courts, to the halls of parliament, the youth climate movement continues to knock on the doors of power.”

The PPT includes a scanned annotated copy of the article which has been highlighted in preparation for unpacking the article with students.

Part of a set of resources created for a year 10 English class in Australia (ACARA syllabus, version 9). The other resources are also available in my store – Aussie_Resources. A PowerPoint designed for use in a 70 minute lesson.
