2D Shape Wanted Posters- Properties

(0)
I made these for my Year 1 class in the hope of making 2D shape properties a bit more interesting. They can describe the properties of the shape e.g. 3 sides, 3 corners. They are also able to name the shape e.g. Terry Triangle. They can then either cut and stick photos of or draw, for example, triangle shaped objects he might disguise himself as at the bottom. Hope it helps someone out there and saves them some time! It includes the following shapes: Rectangle Circle Square Triangle Hexagon Pentagon Octagon Oval

Perfect for Key Stage 1 (KS1) and lower Key Stage 2 (LKS2), this worksheet blends outdoor learning with core Geometry concepts, focusing on 2D shapes. How to Use This Resource Preparation: Print the Outdoor Maths 2D Shapes worksheet for each child or pair. Review the target 2D shapes. The Hunt: Take your class to a designated outdoor learning space—a playground, school garden, or field. Find and Draw: The children’s task is to find a real-life object in the outdoor environment that matches each shape on their sheet. For example, a clock face for a circle, a paving slab for a square, or a roof gable for a triangle. Record: They then draw a sketch of that object in the corresponding box on their worksheet. This involves focused observation and representational drawing. Discussion: Conclude the lesson with a group discussion. Have students share their most interesting finds and explain why their chosen object fits the shape category. This encourages peer learning and reinforces the properties of 2D shapes.

This resource is extremely informative. It includes the names of polygons in a table format, as well as defining and giving examples of perpendicular and parallel lines. The different angle types are given, also with visual examples. On the second page, lines of symmetry and rotational symmetry are defined, again with examples. This resource successfully supports children, allowing them to be independent learners. This resource would be useful within lessons where shapes are compared such as with the use of Carroll and Venn diagrams. This is a two-page Microsoft Word document.
