Do you want to work with the students who need you most, without being boxed in by a rigid curriculum that doesn't fit them?
At Tutor Doctor Peterborough Huntingdon Stamford, you'll support children and young people with SEND, anxiety (including Emotionally Based School Avoidance), and social, emotional and mental health needs, and you'll do it your way, building sessions around the student.
The essentials
Pay: £28–£32 per hour, including full pay for cancellations
Hours: Up to 30 hours/week, daytime — you choose your availability
Location: Peterborough
Start: Recruiting now for the new school year, with interviews running through August
Who we are
Our mission is "to change the trajectory of students' lives." We're a multi-award-winning, family-run branch of an international organisation. That means you benefit from being part of a global, collaborative network while we maintain a constant, local presence and a personal, direct relationship with our tutors, students and clients. Through our numerous accreditations, we've worked with over 50 schools and 5 local authorities.
Who we're looking for
QTS/QTLS, a relevant degree, or experienced HLTA
Minimum 2 years' experience teaching or tutoring learners with SEND, EHCPs, or SEMH needs
Experience working with students who may have anxiety, EBSA, or behavioural difficulties, at primary or secondary level (KS1–KS5)
A genuine ability to build trust and adapt your approach to each student
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one, which we can facilitate), plus solid working knowledge of safeguarding
What you'll be doing You'll deliver 1:1 or small-group daytime sessions, mainly in Maths, English and Science, though other subjects may come up too. You’ll primarily be in person, in schools, local centres, hired rooms, sometimes a student's home, but occasionally some students require online tuition. Students are referred by schools and local authorities, often with an EHCP or identified learning/behavioural needs. You'll plan and adapt sessions to meet both academic and therapeutic goals, set targets collaboratively with the student, and report on progress regularly — all while complying with safeguarding procedures and best practice.
Why tutors stay with us
Total flexibility: you pick your own hours and students
We brief you properly first: we liaise with the school and local authority before placement, so you go in with full context on the student
We handle the admin: we take care of renewals, school liaison, and referrals, so you can focus on teaching
Real support, not just a placement: ongoing management contact, CPD via ÌÇÐÄVlog Develop, safeguarding training, and a genuine team behind you
Multiple settings: schools, colleges, youth centres, and occasionally online
How to apply We follow a Safer Recruitment Process developed with the NSPCC. You'll need the right to work in the UK on a self-employed basis and a recent Enhanced DBS (or Update Service subscription). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, apply now to be considered for a September start.

Tutor Doctor’s mission is to change the trajectory of students' lives.
Tutor Doctor Peterborough Huntingdon Stamford is a multi-award winning, family-run branch of an international organisation. As such we benefit from being part of a global, collaborative network while maintaining a constant, local presence and a personal and direct relationship with our tutors, students and clients.
Through our numerous accreditations we have worked with over 50 schools and 5 local authorities, providing multiple service offerings including:
- Academic provision (KS1 to A-Level in all subjects)
- Alternative provision
- Out of school provision
- Therapeutic provision
- Transition and preparing for adulthood
- Supporting students with:
- Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
- Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
We support students in person - at school, in home or at one of the specialised youth centres we partner with - or virtually, both one-to-one and in small groups.
We pride ourselves on being a diverse and inclusive organisation that prioritises student safety and wellbeing. We’re constantly looking to improve how we can promote an organisational culture that foregrounds safeguarding, and we’re determined to focus on student outcomes, and ensure that child protection isn’t just treated like a tick-box exercise.
We understand that many teachers feel restricted by prescribed lesson plans and schemes of work that don’t consider their personal teaching styles or the needs of their students. Moreover, we often hear that teachers feel under pressure to constantly meet enforced class targets that they had no input in, meaning they don’t necessarily reflect their students’ abilities and progress.
So, why work with us? We offer our tutors:
- The opportunity to focus on the part of the job you care about the most – teaching
- Flexibility, meaning you choose your hours, locations and students, both in-person and online
- A collaborative environment comprising a supportive network of educators, schools, and families. We foster open communication and we’re always available when you may need us (easy access to management). Our team-oriented approach ensures you’re never alone, providing a platform to learn and grow
- Access to TES Develop, a comprehensive CPD training platform
- Advice and learning support, signposting resources, assessment tools and virtual learning platforms – although you’re always free to use your own
- Monthly newsletters with safeguarding training and CPD opportunities, regular communication with management, and invites to social functions
Tutoring with us is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of young people. Join our team of incredible tutors today and help make a difference.
