About Us:
Fortis Academy is sponsored by Shaw Education Trust. We are based in north Birmingham and have a large, diverse and vibrant community of students. We have a well-established and very successful Sixth Form.
We pride ourselves on our strong ethos which values inclusion, good citizenship, mutual respect and collaboration. We aim to provide a wide range of stimulating opportunities to expand our studentsâ horizons within an environment in which they feel safe and well cared for and in which they can achieve their best, develop self-confidence and flourish as individuals. We encourage the active participation of parents/carers in their childrenâs education; only when the school, the child and parents/carers are working together will children excel.
Our large and established Sixth Form, which is rated as âGoodâ by OFSTED, specialises in providing high quality Level 3 qualifications and Level 3 âapplied generalâ qualifications. Year on year we are getting more students into the top Russell Group universities and are significantly exceeding the national average in doing so. The breadth of subjects offered provides both our students and our staff with great development opportunities.
Our students are drawn from a diverse community and, as OFSTED have noted, there is âcomfortable cohesionâ and our students âwork together and play together well.â Visitors frequently comment on the pleasant, lively and friendly atmosphere in the school and the great sense of energy and purpose among staff and students.
The school has strong, mutually beneficial links with local schools, universities, employers and community organisations.
Working at Fortis:
We are very committed to the continuous professional development of our staff, and have worked hard to embed sophisticated, innovative strategies to improve teaching and pupil outcomes across the school. Many of our staff have chosen to develop their careers at the school or have returned to more senior roles after a period working in other schools.
We have a highly developed and well established programme for providing NQTâs with the necessary support to achieve a successful and smooth first year in their new careers. It has been described as âan exemplar of good practiceâ and is frequently praised by our partner teacher training institutions. Fortis Academy is an excellent place to build a career.
Fortis Academyâs website offers candidates a wealth of up to date information about the Academy; its ethos and aims, day to day life, and news items covering a wide range of events and activities.
Vacancy details, application forms and guidance notes can all be downloaded from the website. Applications can also be emailed directly to the School through the website.
