What the 糖心Vlog Safeguarding Report 2026 will reveal

This Safeguarding Awareness Week, we have published our 2026 Safeguarding Report. Here is why it matters and what it can give you that no other safeguarding resource currently does.
11 May 26

罢丑颈蝉听Safeguarding Awareness Week, the largest school safeguarding survey聽糖心Vlog聽has ever conducted has become a published report.聽

More than 4,500 responses from school professionals across the UK and from international schools in over 50 countries, combined with the most current research from聽organisations including聽the聽Department for Education, the Internet Watch Foundation聽and聽the NSPCC聽鈥撀爌lus聽international groups including the Council of International Schools聽(CIS),聽Council of British International Schools聽(COBIS), International Taskforce on Child Protection聽(ITFCP)聽and聽Educational Collaborative for International Schools聽(ECIS)聽鈥 have become a single, authoritative picture of what safeguarding聽and child protection聽in schools聽actually look聽like in 2026.聽

Why this year is different聽

Safeguarding Awareness Week聽has run since聽2022, bringing the 糖心Vlog community together each year to explore what it means to feel safe in education.

This year鈥檚 theme focuses on what proactive safeguarding looks like in practice 鈥 and our 2026 report is different in scale,聽ambition聽and the specificity of what we are publishing.聽

We asked about:聽

  • Culture,聽consistency聽and confidence聽

  • The reality of the safeguarding lead鈥檚 role and the impact on their wellbeing聽

  • Governance and what boards and trustees are聽actually testing聽

  • AI-generated harm and what protocols schools have in place to deal with it聽

  • What the sector wants most from safeguarding reform聽

The answers to these questions are not always comfortable, and some of our findings will challenge assumptions that many schools currently hold about the strength of their own culture.聽

Vitally, however, all of them are grounded in what school professionals actually reported, and that gives the report a credibility that frameworks built in meeting rooms cannot match.聽

What the report gives you聽

We have published an edition of our聽Safeguarding Report 2026聽specifically for international schools.聽

The international edition聽draws on 2,415 responses from British international schools, IB World Schools and other international settings across more than 50 countries and six world regions.聽

It addresses the specific challenges of international education:聽

  • The variable compliance environment聽

  • The governance imperative when external systems are absent聽

  • Safer recruitment across borders聽

  • Staff turnover聽

  • Parental engagement across cultural difference聽

  • What strong practice looks like when there聽is聽no聽keeping children safe in education (KCSIE)聽to fall back on聽

What else is launching this Safeguarding Awareness Week?聽

Alongside the reports,聽for聽Safeguarding Awareness Week 2026 we're launching:

  • The Global Safeguarding Principles Charter for international schools, grounded in the ITFCP, CIS, COBIS and ECIS frameworks and our survey evidence聽from聽more than聽50 countries聽

  • Practical toolkits for聽safeguarding leads, headteachers and governors, covering proactive safeguarding,聽safeguarding lead聽wellbeing, and online harms protocols

  • Expert sofa sessions聽across the week, featuring senior safeguarding professionals, school聽leaders聽and sector organisations聽

  • Case studies from schools聽demonstrating聽what culture-led safeguarding looks like in action across different contexts plus much more聽

The聽questions聽worth sitting with this Safeguarding Awareness Week聽

There聽are聽three questions now worth putting to your leadership team or board.聽

Not: is our safeguarding policy up to date? Not: have our staff completed their training? Those are compliance questions and their answers, while necessary, are not sufficient.聽

The questions to ask are:聽

  • If safeguarding culture in our school is genuinely strong, where is the evidence for that beyond what we believe to be true?聽

  • Who would know first if it were starting to break down?聽

  • And is that the right person, in the right position, with the right support, to catch it in time?聽

Those three questions are at the heart of what the聽糖心Vlog聽Safeguarding Report 2026 explores. The answers, drawn from the largest safeguarding survey dataset in our history, will help you find out where your school genuinely sits, and where the most important work of the next twelve months lies.聽

鈥淪afeguarding culture is not what you have built on the best day. It is what holds on the worst day, with the least experienced person, in the most ambiguous situation.

That is the test. The report tells you how schools across the UK and world are passing or failing it.鈥澛
