The Guardians is a whole-school primary programme built around five core qualities: Kindness, Curiosity, Bravery, Creativity and Fairness. These are not qualities that sit within one subject or a small number of PSHE lessons; they underpin almost everything we want children to become good at during their time at primary school. To learn well, children need curiosity. To try something difficult, they need bravery. To solve problems and express themselves, they need creativity. To build strong relationships and contribute positively to their community, they need kindness and fairness. The Guardians gives schools a simple, memorable language through which these qualities can be explicitly taught, recognised, celebrated and developed.
Each quality is represented by its own Guardian and Power Stone, helping children understand that all five qualities exist within them and can grow stronger through practice. The programme begins with six ready-to-teach lessons, adaptable across the primary age range, which introduce the Guardians, explore each quality and bring them together at the end. Lessons include discussion, stories, scenarios, reflection and creative activities, supported by a complete set of PowerPoints, videos, lesson guidance, printable resources, templates and classroom activities, all brought together in one package.
Most importantly, The Guardians is designed to become part of the ethos of the whole school. The introductory lessons provide the starting point, but the real impact comes from the shared language being used beyond them: in classrooms, assemblies, behaviour conversations, curriculum learning, celebrations, playground interactions and everyday decision-making. The Guardians provides a framework through which the whole school community can continually encourage children to become kinder, more curious, braver, more creative and fairer - qualities that underpin learning, personal development and the kind of people we hope children will become.
