Celebrate Roald Dahl Day on 13 September with this engaging, ready-to-deliver whole-school assembly for primary schools.

This assembly celebrates Roald Dahl’s imagination, humour, creativity and unforgettable use of language, while exploring why his stories continue to make readers laugh, wonder and think. Pupils discover how stories can help us develop vocabulary, reading for pleasure, oracy and an understanding of character and values.

Through familiar characters and stories including Matilda, The BFG and Fantastic Mr Fox, pupils explore ideas such as courage, kindness, fairness, resilience, friendship and perseverance. The assembly also encourages children to think critically about characters’ choices and consider what makes a story memorable.

The presentation includes an interactive Roald Dahl character and story challenge, partner discussion, audience questions and a reflection encouraging pupils to celebrate books, authors and the joy of reading.
