Full French Lesson Plan - L’avenir du français à Madagascar!

This French lesson plan focuses on independent reading comprehension and comprehension questions about a news article that talks about the difficulties with learning French in Madagascar.

This is a different article from the other reading passage lesson plan!

The news article talks a bit about the uncertain future of the French language in Madagascar due to lack of resources, lack of interest, and lack of teachers among other issues. It is quite interesting and gets students thinking about the value of having a second language, especially one that can benefit a person economically.

First, we have a short discussion about learning French as a second language and the difficulties that come with that (questions to guide the discussion included).
Next, students are given time to read the news article independently and answer the comprehension questions (double-sided sheet included with FULL answer key so you can hand it out or post it)

After, we have a class discussion and take up the answers together.

For the last activity, students work in pairs on a small project related to the article topic.

The lesson takes 1 full class (75 minutes).
