This lesson contains:

  • An introduction to religion in Saxon England, including a YouTube video about the change from pagan to Christianity, and then students glue in a mind map and annotate the different roles of the Church and monasteries using the teacher explanation and slides on the board.
  • A guided read about the functions of towns and cities. Students find out about the economies of villages and then towns, answering questions down the right of the worksheet. The questions are done as ‘one feature’ style questions, with students providing facts to each statement.
  • A chance to do a plenary to practice the one feature skill fully.
