This is a version of the popular timeline game ‘Hitster’ designed to help students with revising AOSA the essay question and symphonies between 1750-1900.
The rules of the game are:
Objective:
Be the first player to build a timeline of 10 songs (or however many you decide as the teacher) in the correct chronological order.
Setup:
Each player receives 1 music card face up to start their timeline.
Choose a player (or teacher) to scan/play songs. The QR code will automatically link to spotify but you will see the piece so this should either be a teacher or the player should avert their eyes!
The player with the oldest starting song goes first.
Gameplay:
A song is played by scanning the top card.
The active player places the card face down in their timeline where they think the song belongs (before, after, or between existing cards).
Flip the card over to reveal the release year:
Correct placement: keep the card.
Incorrect placement: discard the card.
Play passes to the next player.
Winning:
The first player to have 10 correctly placed cards in their timeline wins and becomes the Hitster.

There are 192 different cards created, the colours of the cards don’t mean anything (except to help with the printing process for you!), symphonies are split into different movements. The selection of symphonies has been heavily influenced by A-Level ’s selection and features the current set works and the future set works (first examination in 2028).
When printing it should be printed double sided and ‘flip on short edge’ to make the correct QR code line up to the right symphony/movement.
It should either be printed on card or paper and then laminated for extended use.

My students have really loved this game and actually choose to play it at break times as well as when we use it as a starter activity!
