Create this adorable A Cup of Hot Chocolate craft with your students using simple, inexpensive materials!
This resource includes printable cup labels as well as brown chocolate circles with an opening for the spoon. The pieces are designed to make preparing the craft easy and give the finished cups a fun, realistic hot chocolate appearance.
What is included?
• Hot Chocolate cup labels – ready to print, cut out and attach to paper cups.
• Brown chocolate circles – designed to sit on top of the cup, with an opening for the spoon to be inserted.
Teacher Preparation
The teacher will need to prepare the following materials:
• Paper cups, preferably with a handle or a handle added with cardstock.
• Recycled paper, scrunched into a ball and placed inside the cup. This provides support so the brown chocolate circle can sit securely near the top of the cup.
• Plastic spoons.
• Cotton wool balls to use as the marshmallows.
• Printed cup labels and brown chocolate circles from this resource.
Once the cups are prepared, children can help assemble and decorate their own cup of hot chocolate.
Classroom Uses
This craft is perfect for winter, Christmas, food, café, pretend play or cold-weather themed lessons. It can also be used in an ESL classroom to practice vocabulary such as:
cup • hot • chocolate • spoon • marshmallow • brown • white
Children can use their finished cups in role-play activities, such as pretending to run a café, serving hot chocolate to their friends, or practicing simple sentences such as:
“I want hot chocolate.”
“Here is your hot chocolate.”
“I have a spoon.”
“I see two marshmallows.”
It makes a lovely hands-on craft and pretend-play activity that can continue to be used long after the craft has been completed.
