This lesson is one of my favourites from the Spiritual Art topic. Students are so engaged, and if you are in the Midlands/North of England it also has the benefit of being of local interest. The lesson explores how Christians express faith through art and design, with a focus on well-dressings in Derbyshire, Christian symbolism and the merging of Christian and Pagan traditions in the UK.

Includes:

Do Now recall questions
Key concepts: expression, symbolism, and importance
Integrated video to show art in depth
Exploration of Christian symbolism and key themes.
Mix of reading, writing, creative and video tasks.
Opportunities for questioning and contemplation of higher-order concepts.

Ideal for KS3 or KS4 Religious Studies, promoting cultural understanding, comparison skills and interpretation of religious symbolism.
