There is already a plethora of places to get information about healthy eating to help you cover the topic with children; including finding the healthy eating plate from the USA, the Australian guide to healthy eating and the eatwell guide in the UK.
Our song and video is a great stimulation for a lesson starter, to get the ball (or perhaps an orange) rolling and may appeal to various ages.
A bit of fun for the youngest pupils, a great lesson starter for many ages or a revision song for some!
Learning objectives can include:
• To understand and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet.
• To Identify food groups (carbohydrates, fruit/vegetables, protein, dairy, fats) and their functions.
• To understand the function of nutrients (e.g., protein for growth, calcium for bones).
• To understand the impact of sugar on health and analyze sugar content in food labels.
• To identify influences on food choices and learn to make informed, healthy decisions
Resource sheets are available to aid you in your teaching with suggestions for activities. Links to the song and video are on those and the information sheet.
