  • 3 weekly exit tickets — 5 multiple-choice questions per week, with teacher answer keys.
Final writing outcome

A comic narrative in three short chapters telling the story of a kind new vicar who, whenever he becomes nervous, accidentally reverses his words — building from the first embarrassing sermon, through a worried village, to the surprising cure discovered by the doctor. Pupils use subordination with ‘when’ and ‘because’ to explain why the comic mishaps happen, and inverted commas to punctuate the reversed dialogue.

Grammar features (Year 3 NC-aligned)
  • Subordination using the conjunctions ‘when’ and ‘because’ to join two clauses.
  • Inverted commas to punctuate direct speech.
Themes explored

Comic linguistic mishap and the surprise of language going wrong, The kindness of a community looking after one of its own, The patient search for a cure to a peculiar problem, Small disasters caused by mis-speaking and being misunderstood.
