Our printable set of Synonyms Flashcards is designed to support vocabulary development across the primary age range. With 85 synonym pairs (170 words), the resource includes simple, everyday vocabulary suitable for younger learners as well as more advanced synonyms for KS2 pupils.

The cards are colour-coded and clearly presented to help children recognise and explore different levels of vocabulary. Some root words appear more than once (e.g. build–make and build–construct) to show progression from basic synonyms to more challenging alternatives.

These cards are ideal for developing reading comprehension, improving writing, extending vocabulary choices and supporting EAL learners. They can be used in whole-class teaching, small groups, literacy centres or for targeted intervention.
