Subtraction L21 Four in a Row | Subtracting Binomial Expressions is a printable subtraction game from a structured 26-level progression, designed to develop accurate algebraic simplification.

This resource gives pupils focused practice in subtracting binomial expressions. Pupils must apply subtraction across brackets correctly, identify corresponding like terms and combine coefficients and constants accurately.

Pupils answer algebraic subtraction questions and try to connect four correct answers, creating an engaging alternative to a standard algebra worksheet.

This is one individual consolidation level from the wider 26-level Subtraction progression. It builds on subtracting individual linear and non-linear terms by requiring pupils to manage complete two-term expressions.

The rationale behind the progression is that pupils make better progress when the structure becomes more demanding in controlled steps. At this level, particular attention is given to changing signs when subtracting a complete expression.

This individual Four in a Row resource is useful for:

starter activities
intervention
retrieval practice
homework
tutoring
cover lessons
paired work
small-group practice
KS3 and KS4 algebra
GCSE Foundation revision

The game format adds motivation and pace, while pupils improve bracket handling, sign accuracy, like-term recognition and the presentation of simplified expressions.

This resource is sold individually as one level from the full 26-level Subtraction Four in a Row progression.
