Help 11 to 19 year-olds explore identity, the feeling of isolation and the value of friendship by looking at a comic book about a refugee鈥檚 story. This lesson fits will PSHE, Citizenship and Geography.

The group discussion are used alongside cartoon panels from the comic book Over Under Sideways Down, with project ideas for young people to develop their work, in or outside of the classroom.

Learners will:

  • consider some of the challenges facing refugees as they rebuild their lives
  • learn how best to respond to someone who is showing signs of emotional distress
  • understand that we are interconnected and all have a part in shaping the future
  • explore feelings of fear, confusion and vulnerability
  • think about the realities of everyday life from a refugee鈥檚 point of view.
