Alevel lesson for AQA spec but can be adapted to any other spec (for GCSE level lesson on this see here: /teaching-resource/superpower-relations-wwii-conferences-12806402 )

This is a 2 hour lesson plus homework which requires no textbooks (slides can be printed for students or you can use pre-filled word doc instead of them doing independent textbook work).

Includes: comprehensive starter/ retrieval task on aims of big 3 in post war settlements, ideological differences between Communist USSR and Capitalist USA/ Britain.
Includes Historiography of Cold war origins analysis including 3 diff Historians to compare, analyse and interpret and add supporting evidence

Explanation of the view of Historic antagonism between East and West and the view that the Cold War was predetermined prior to WWII with a timeline / task to gather evidence to support this view.

Explanation of context of Yalta and Potsdam looking at Yalta and the Moscow/ Percentages Agreement in 1943-44.

Info gathering task/ analysis task including living graphs to evaluate who gained most at Yalta and Potsdam

Source analysis and evaluation / essay skills for Section A/ Q1 looking at value of primary sources of 2 primary sources from Roosevelt and Churchill pre and post Yalta conference with a grid to guide students.

Essay Q (Section B) to go through with students and homework set for them to attempt to write it.
