Give Year 8 the tools to draw a believable face with this visual, colourful and ready-to-teach Art PowerPoint. Pupils learn why proportions go wrong, measure the placement of eyes, nose, mouth and ears, and build a portrait from simple shapes. Tone is taught through tonal scales, pencil grades and the techniques of hatching, cross-hatching, blending and stippling, with guidance on where shadows fall. The grid method, profile views and expression add depth. Two interactive, hands-on activities, a proportion study and a tonal portrait, produce real work for the sketchbook, and an evaluation task sets a target. Non-specialist friendly and ideal as a cover lesson using only pencils and paper, with a closing slide showing how the skills build towards GCSE Art.
