Celebrate National Fitness Day on 18 September with this engaging, inclusive whole-school assembly for primary schools.

This assembly explores the idea that fitness is for everyone, helping pupils understand that being active doesn’t have to mean being sporty or the fastest. Children discover how walking, dancing, stretching, playing, cycling and even short movement breaks can all help us feel healthy, happy and ready to learn.

Pupils explore how movement can benefit both our bodies and our minds, while learning that everyone’s body and abilities are different. The assembly promotes an inclusive approach to fitness, including different ways of participating for children with disabilities, illness, tiredness or sensory needs.

Through the story of Oak Class, pupils see how a simple two-minute movement break can help children feel brighter and more ready to learn. The story reinforces the message that movement can be small, gentle, energetic or playful — and that every body can be active in a way that feels safe and helpful.

The presentation includes a safe whole-school movement and thinking break, audience questions and a practical challenge encouraging pupils to build small amounts of enjoyable movement into their everyday lives.
