Build maths literacy and secure geometry vocabulary with this Level 1 Foundation Match-Up pack. It includes 10 activities, 100 term-and-definition matches, complete solutions and an accompanying PowerPoint for whole-class teaching.

Pupils often recognise a shape or method but struggle to explain it using precise mathematical language. This resource provides a simple, low-preparation way to embed literacy in maths lessons while revising essential geometry knowledge.

Each activity contains 10 lettered terms and 10 numbered definitions. Pupils read carefully and match each word to its correct meaning, developing vocabulary, retrieval, reasoning and mathematical communication.

Vocabulary included

2D shapes and properties: triangle, rectangle, quadrilateral, square, polygon, compound shape and properties of shape.

Angles and lines: angle, acute angle, obtuse angle, reflex angle, perpendicular, parallel, line, point, centre, edge and vertex.

3D shapes: cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone, pyramid, prism, sphere, face and net.

Transformations and symmetry: translation, rotation, reflection, symmetry and line symmetry.

Geometry equipment: protractor.

Key vocabulary is revisited across different activities to provide purposeful retrieval practice and help pupils distinguish between closely related terms such as cube and cuboid, face and edge, and symmetry and line symmetry.

The included PowerPoint allows the tasks to be displayed, discussed and completed with the whole class. Printable PDF worksheets and full solution pages are also included for independent work, self-assessment or quick teacher marking.

Ideal for KS3 maths, GCSE Foundation preparation, maths literacy, starters, plenaries, revision, intervention, homework, cover lessons, tutoring, mixed-attainment classes, EAL learners and SEN support.

Part of the Beyond Printables Literacy in Maths Suite.
