This resource is a thirteen page PDF document of reading comprehension activities to do based on the book Cornbread and Poppy by Matthew Cordell.

The activities are broken up into three section which are:

  • The Best News Ever
  • The Carnival
  • The Peanut

The activities allow the students to reflect on the story and extend their understanding of the themes within this text. There are nine worksheets, three for each section.

This resource has been designed in this manner as this is the type of book that is often used for reading / literacy groups. This allows for the work to be completed as the students work their way through the text.

Each chapter contains a worksheet which includes comprehension questions, another worksheet with a vocabulary focus and a writing / drawing activity.

The last writing activity is provided in two versions. One is for students who have been to a carnival before and one is for students who haven鈥檛 been to a carnival.
