We would truly appreciate your input on our guides, for improvement and small tweaks where necessary. Teachers from many fields have worked together to build this store and these guides. A 1hr 30min, 60-mark exam – 28% of your IGCSE. Paper 4 is the exam alternative to Component 3 Coursework. This guide, last updated May 2026, fixes the three biggest mistakes my students made: describing data without explaining using geographical theory, forgetting to identify anomalies, and evaluating methods without specific improvements.

What’s inside (29 pages):

5 assessment criteria decoded (C1–C5, 12 marks each) – what Level 1, 2, and 3 look like for Knowledge, Data Collection, Presentation, Analysis, and Conclusion/Evaluation

Question structure guide – each question follows the route to enquiry: (a) hypothesis/aim, (b) methodology, © data presentation, (d) analysis, (e) conclusion/evaluation.

C1 – Knowledge & Understanding
C2 – Data Collection
C3 – Data Presentation
C4 – Analysis & Interpretation
C5 – Conclusion & Evaluation

Topic scenarios by subject – rivers (Bradshaw model, flow meter, pebbleometer), coasts (longshore drift, beach profile, groynes), ecosystems (sand dune succession, quadrats, transects), urban (CBD sphere of influence, pedestrian counts, EQS, choropleth maps), tourism (Butler model, questionnaire), energy (renewable site evaluation, bi-polar scoring)

Predicted topics 2027–2029 – river investigation (velocity/discharge), pedestrian/CBD counts, coastal/beach study, tourism (Butler model), sand dune transect, migration push/pull, flood hydrograph, urban EQS, renewable energy site evaluation

Complete pre-exam checklist – 60+ items across all 5 criteria – can you tick every box?

How I use this resource: Students memorise the DEAD framework for C4 and the 4-part weakness formula for C5. They practise Spearman’s Rank calculations weekly and learn to interpret rs against critical values. The biggest leap from Level 2 to Level 3 is explaining anomalies using theory – not dismissing them as ‘mistakes’.

Suitable for: Cambridge IGCSE Geography 0460 candidates taking Paper 4 Geographical Investigations (alternative to Component 3 Coursework). Students aiming for A*/A. Teachers looking for a structured Paper 4 revision resource.
