A Handout (stimulus) and PPT which is part of a unit designed to teach students how to engage with a range of written and visual texts.

Lesson intent: looking at a transcript of a podcast as an example of a written text (for Q1) of the CIA exam.

Explicit teaching:

• What is a podcast?
• Examples of podcasts (images). To see whether students are familiar with any of these.
• How are podcasts typically structured?
• Language features common to podcasts.

Context for stimulus: Who the two speakers are (in the example which I wrote to be like them – not what they actually said).

Student task: read and annotate the text. Find 2 representations and 3 pieces of evidence for each representation (an idea/opinion, a Language Feature and a Text Structure).

Once students have planned their response. They write their two paragraphs independently. If handwriting, these can be collected as an exit ticket otherwise instruct students to email what they have typed to you.
