Learn how to organise projectile-motion problems through six fully worked examples across 14 illustrated pages.

Created by Phi Advanced STEM Studies, this resource helps students choose a method, set up the physics and develop clear, complete solutions. Try each question first, then compare your reasoning with the worked solution.

Six examples cover:

  • Level-ground launch: components, time to the top, maximum height and range.
  • Clearing a wall: height, speed and direction at a given horizontal position.
  • Launch from a cliff: impact time, range and impact velocity.
  • Interpreting a vertical velocity–time graph and connecting it to the trajectory.
  • Finding launch angles for a required range.
  • A labelled mathematics extension: reaching an elevated target using a quadratic in tan θ and checking screen clearance.

Solutions include labelled diagrams, axes, assumptions, intermediate calculations and final answers. Attention to signs, directions, units and physical checks supports increasingly independent work.

Suitable for selected ideal-projectile topics in A level, IB and AP Physics, subject to the course specification. Inverse problems and the final mathematics extension may go beyond some courses. This resource does not claim identical or complete syllabus coverage.

Mathematics: algebra, trigonometry, quadratics and inverse trigonometry. No calculus is required.

Included: the 14-page student PDF, the matching instructor question map PDF and two sample-page images. The instructor map supports question selection and planning.

The separate guided notes and practice-problem collection are not included. English-language PDF resources; editable source files and tutoring are not included. Independently produced and not endorsed by an examination board.
