Turn writing into an exciting, immersive experience with this ‘Ready, Steady, Write!’ creative writing resource, inspired by I Met a Dragon Face to Face by Jack Prelutsky.

Designed to support a dedicated writing day, the resource uses the imaginative poem as a stimulus for discussion, language work and creative writing. The poem takes children through dragons, outer space, pirates, trolls, sharks, submarines, time machines and dinosaurs – before revealing that all of these adventures were experienced through books.

The resource includes:

  • Ready-to-use teaching slides
  • Activities linked to the poem and creative writing
  • “I Met a Dragon Face to Face” display lettering, ideal for celebrating children’s finished writing

A fun way to build excitement around writing and encourage children to use their imaginations to create their own adventures.

Ideal for: KS1 / lower KS2, creative writing days, poetry-inspired writing, World Book Day and whole-class writing activities.
