A bright, engaging GCSE English Language reading revision bundle designed to help students strengthen their reading skills and build confidence when approaching unfamiliar texts before the exam.

Students practise retrieval, inference, close word analysis, connotations, reader effect, writer’s purpose, tone and patterns of language before applying their learning independently.

Across the bundle, students are encouraged to move beyond simply identifying techniques and instead think carefully about:

How does the language affect the reader?

The Improving Reading lesson includes fiction and non-fiction material, supported activities, challenges, sentence scaffolds, model responses and dedicated answer slides. It also develops students’ ability to recognise wider patterns of language, such as shifts from negative to positive vocabulary, rather than analysing quotations in isolation.
