Read and retell the Nativity story with illustrated reading panels, sequencing cards and a make-a-book activity.

Suggested ages 5–9, with shared reading and adult support as needed.

This 10-page printable PDF includes:

  • Eight illustrated story events across four large reading pages
  • Eight shorter picture-and-text cards for supported reading
  • A numbered sequencing mat
  • An illustrated make-a-book guide
  • Teacher notes, vocabulary and printing guidance

Read the larger panels together, discuss the pictures and explain vocabulary such as census, manger, shepherd and myrrh. Cut apart and mix the shorter cards before children read and arrange them in story order. Use the mat or join two six-page booklets to make a storybook with all eight cards.

Support children by reading with a partner or adult, rehearsing each event aloud or sequencing fewer cards at a time. Extend the activity through oral retelling and discussion of characters’ choices.

Student pages are black and white. Print A4 landscape at actual size, using the same scale for the cards and mat.

This familiar Nativity retelling brings together events from Luke and Matthew. Teacher notes explain the distinction between the biblical accounts and traditional Christmas imagery.
