Help children get their whole body, shoulders, wrists, hands and fingers ready for fine motor tasks with this simple 5-step Fine Motor Circuit.

Fine motor skills and handwriting don’t start at the fingertips. Controlled hand use relies on coordination throughout the body, stability through the shoulders and arms, wrist and forearm mobility, and coordinated finger movements.

This printable resource contains 20 illustrated activity cards, organised into five colour-coded stages:

MOVE (pink)– whole-body coordination and movement

STABILISE (blue)– arms and shoulders

MOBILISE (green)– wrists and forearms

ACTIVATE (yellow)– hands and fingers

PREPARE TO WRITE (white) – pre-writing and pencil manipulation

Simply choose one activity from each colour to create a quick 5-step fine motor warm-up. Print, laminate and use repeatedly.

Activities include:

Cross Crawl • Windmills • Star Jumps • Scissor Jumps • Wall Press-Ups • Desk Press-Ups • Chair Press-Ups • Arm Circles • Wrist Circles • Prayer Hands • Palm Turns • Wrist Up & Down • Finger-Thumb Taps • Hand Squeezes • Finger Walking • Spider Push-Ups • Air Writing • Infinity Tracing • Pencil Spins • Pencil Flips

Great for:

Classroom handwriting warm-ups, fine motor groups, occupational therapy activities, SEND support, homeschool, therapy sessions, home carryover, and preparing children for handwriting, drawing, cutting and other tabletop activities.

Use the same predictable MOVE - STABILISE - MOBILISE -ACTIVATE -PREPARE TO WRITE structure while changing the individual activities to keep the circuit varied and engaging.

No specialist equipment required.

Digital download. Print and laminate the cards for repeated use.

This resource provides general educational activities and is not a substitute for individual occupational therapy assessment or intervention.
