This fully resourced two-week explanation writing unit focuses on Evaporation and Condensation in the Water Cycle. Pupils will explore how water changes state and moves through the environment, while developing the writing skills needed to explain scientific processes clearly and accurately.

The unit is designed around Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, with carefully sequenced lessons that break down writing skills, vocabulary development, and scientific understanding. Pupils will learn how to organise information, use precise language, and structure their ideas using key grammar features.

This pack includes:

  • 10 complete explanation writing lessons with clear objectives and modelling
  • A two-page WAGOLL (model text) with teacher annotations
  • Over 110 editable teaching slides to support lesson delivery
  • 17 pupil worksheets aligned with each stage of the writing process
  • Sentence stems, success criteria, and structured writing frames
  • Grammar focus: conjunctions, fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases
  • Audio version of the WAGOLL for accessibility and EAL support
  • Dyslexia-friendly fonts and layout
  • Retrieval activities, recap quizzes, and assessment opportunities

Perfect for cross-curricular learning, this resource strengthens science understanding (Water Cycle) while supporting explanation writing outcomes in KS2. Use it for whole-class teaching, small group intervention, or writing assessment.
