• Pupils know the main causes of the English Civil War (religion, money, king-vs-Parliament power)
• Pupils know about the Cavaliers (King’s side) and Roundheads (Parliament’s side) and one or two major battles (Edgehill 1642, Naseby 1645)
• Pupils know that Charles I was tried and executed on 30 January 1649 - the only English monarch ever to be put on trial and beheaded by his own people
